Freezing temperatures bring with them hazards to our home. Here are some helpful tips to prevent frozen pipes at your home:

  • Open your HOT and COLD faucets and let them drip slowly overnight. Keep the water moving.
  • Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to reach plumbing under sinks. Caution: Move harmful chemical out of the reach of children.
  • Locate your water shut-off and learn how to use it. You need to know where to go and what to do if a pipe bursts.
  • Disconnect garden hoses from outside spigots.
  • Insulate all outside pipes with cloth and foam materials sold at improvement stores.
  • Set your heat inside your home at no lower than 55 degrees.
  • Keep you pool filtration system running overnight to avoid freeze damage.
  • Add your local utility contact information into your cell phone now, before you need them.

If you discover frozen pipes, take measures to safely thaw them immediately or call a plumber for assistance. Don’t wait for them to burst.

If your pipes burst, first turn the water off and then mop up the spills. You don't want the water to do more damage than it already has.
